CHAPTER 7: COMPARING QUANTITIES

What is Comparing Quantities?

Every time you go shopping and check which item gives you better value, you are comparing quantities! It's about finding which is better, cheaper, or more valuable.

Shopping Example:

500 ml juice costs ₹50

1 liter juice costs ₹90

Which is better value for money?

We need to compare!

Real-Life Examples

Discount in Shops:

Shirt price: ₹800

Discount: 20% off

How much do you pay?

20% of ₹800 = ₹160 discount

You pay: ₹800 - ₹160 = ₹640

Test Marks:

You scored 45 out of 50 in Maths

You scored 38 out of 50 in Science

Which subject did better?

Maths: (45/50)×100 = 90%

Science: (38/50)×100 = 76%

Maths is better!

Cricket Statistics:

Virat scored 80 runs in 100 balls

Rohit scored 60 runs in 50 balls

Who has better strike rate?

Strike rate = (Runs/Balls)×100
