CHAPTER 5: LINES AND ANGLES

What are Lines and Angles?

Look around you! Lines and angles are everywhere - in buildings, books, roads, and even in sports!

Real World Examples:

• Cricket stumps form straight lines

• Book corners make 90° angles

• Road intersections create angles

• Clock hands make different angles

Types of Lines

Railway Tracks:

Parallel lines - they never meet

Like railway tracks or notebook lines

Cross Roads:

Intersecting lines - they cross each other

Like roads crossing at junctions

Types of Angles

Right Angle (90°):

Book corners, door edges, L-shaped roads

Like the letter "L"

Acute Angle (<90°):

Slice of pizza, piece of pie, sharp corner

Smaller than a right angle

Obtuse Angle (>90°):

Open book, fan blades, wide corner

Bigger than a right angle

What You Will Learn

In this chapter, we will learn:

  • Different types of lines
  • Different types of angles
  • How to measure angles
  • Pairs of angles (complementary, supplementary)
  • Vertically opposite angles
  • Transversal lines
  • Angle sum property

Why is it Important?

Lines and angles help us:

  • Understand building designs
  • Read maps and directions
  • Play sports better (cricket, football)
  • Design art and patterns
  • Understand road signs
  • Measure land and areas
  • Create beautiful rangoli designs
