CHAPTER 4: SIMPLE EQUATIONS

What are Equations?

Equations are like number puzzles! They have an equal sign (=) and show that two things are the same.

Simple Example:

If you have 5 apples and eat some, and 2 are left:

5 - ? = 2

The question mark (?) is what we need to find!

Real-Life Examples

Shopping Example:

You have ₹100. You buy a pen for ₹x. You have ₹40 left.

Equation: 100 - x = 40

What is the price of the pen?

Age Example:

Your brother is 3 years older than you. If you are y years old, your brother is y + 3 years old.

If your brother is 15: y + 3 = 15

How old are you?

Cricket Example:

A team needs 50 runs to win. They have scored 35 runs.

Equation: 35 + x = 50

How many more runs do they need?
